How we make bandsaw blades

#1 Steel

We buy bi-metal steel strip for the production of our band saw blades only from European manufacturers. We buy the bi-metal strip already welded - this means that a high-speed steel wire is already welded to the spring steel body.

#2 Teeth production

The first manufacturing operation is the production of toothing. We mill the teeth on our saw blades. The shape of the tooth profile is determined by a special shape milling machine. The milling takes place in a bundle of several bands, our milling machines are capable of milling up to 60 bands at the same time! Bands produced by milling are already perfectly sharp and ready to cut, unlike band saw blades produced by stamping, our bands do not need to be further sharpened before use.

#3 Teeth setting

The second operation is the teeth setting. The teeth are alternately deflected sideways so that during cutting the cutting groove is wider than the band body and the band saw blade does not jam in the cut. The resulting width of the teeht setting is controlled by an automatic camera which, if necessary, alerts the operator to the need to adjust the machine.

#4 Heat treatment

The band saw blades gain their strength through heat treatment. We own the most modern continuous heat treatment lines where hardening and multiple tempering is carried out continuously in one operation. Our blades achieve excellent properties as a result.

#5 Straightening

All previous manufacturing operations introduced internal stresses into the band saw blades, which were released during heat treatment. It is therefore necessary to straighten the bandsaw blades after heat treatment. Our automatic straightening line ensures that our band saw blades are always straight at the output.

#6 Welding of bandsaw blades

In order to use the bandsaw blade, it must be welded to a specific length, depending on the band saw it is intended for. Our welding shop is equipped with automatic cut to length machine that cut the saw blades to the exact length. We weld saw blades on German Ideal automatic welding machines, which ensure a perfect weld.

#6 Packing

These are PILANA Bandsaw blades, which we pack and ship to more than 60 countries around the world.
